What you can do

All children can achieve school success when provided with highly effective teachers and supportive learning environments, no matter what level they are on or how they learn.

Low student achievement, then, is an adult problem, not a student problem.

New Orleans still has much more work to do, and every minute counts because every child counts. Too many of our city's most at-risk children remain "instructional casualties".

The good news is that CDL's services provide a crucial part of the solution.

The Center for Development and Learning (CDL) is a Louisiana-based nonprofit organization that provides practical knowledge and strategies devised and delivered by teachers to assist in those critical classroom moments when teachers are faced with the reality of failing students. This is a crucial "missing link" in our city's education renaissance.

We tackle real-time issues such as how to remediate struggling readers and ways to differentiate instruction for the diverse learners in the classroom. Working side-by-side with both new and experienced teachers, CDL professionals provide coaching and modeling in the classroom, as well as customized, interactive learning sessions.

"CDL helps our teachers get better at reaching and teaching all students. How well we teach is how well students learn," states Mary Laurie, principal of O. Perry Walker Charter School.

CDL educates the educators.

We need your help. A contribution to our annual Educate the Educators Fund will allow CDL to work in more schools, support more teachers, and save more children in New Orleans.

Time is ticking, and the children can't wait.
